Issues
My campaign slogan of ‘Improving Government One STEP at a Time’ can be summerized in the following four points:
S – Smaller/Limited Government: I believe our founding fathers began this country with the idea that government was created to provide only essential services. Thomas Jefferson summed it up best when he said, “that government is best which governs least”.
T – Taxes: I believe we are taxed enough already and I believe we have a spending problem not a revenue problem. Having grown a company from 6 to 28 employees over the past 12 years, I can tell you from experience that I am tired of having government put its hand in my back pocket every time it runs out of money. We need elected officials with a business background who believe in fiscal responsibility and who will commit to not raising taxes. In order to back up my statement, I have signed the Maryland Tax Payers Association – Taxpayer Protection Pledge. This document is a signed public statement that I will oppose any increase in taxes while serving in office, and if chosen as the next councilman for District 7, I will gladly honor this pledge.
E – Economy: In order to get the economy back on track, we need elected officials who will make decisions based on proven business experience. I understand that the private sector creates jobs, not government, and that the best role for government is to get out of the way, and let business do what it does best.
P – Principles: Government needs leaders who make decisions based on principles. I believe our nation was founded by principled people who believed in limited government, individual freedom, and personal responsibility and accountability. As your councilman, I will work to establish and apply county codes fairly with integrity to help businesses regain strength balanced with our duty to protect the environment.
OTHER ISSUES
Community
Never before has the need for safe communities been as apparent as we have seen the negative influence of gangs on the rise. You are critical in establishing a safe community. It begins with knowing your neighbor. Take the time to understand and relate to the folks on your street. Go out for a walk and invest in some pleasant conversations. When we know our neighbors and what’s going on in their lives, then we will be able to recognize the unwelcomed troublemaker loitering around.
Public Safety
One of the essential county functions that we enjoy is the care and quality of service rendered to us by our local police and fire personnel. These men and women voluntarily have chosen to serve our community in a manner that routinely places them in harms way. Our responsibility to them is to ensure that the necessary funding is available for adequate salaries and proper equipment.
Don’t underestimate the importance of simply saying ‘thanks’ to these brave individuals. Next time you see your local fire station having a pit beef sale, open house, Christmas tree sale, or the like, take time to stop in and participate or simply say thanks.
Second Amendment
I believe in the individual’s right to self-defense and to bear arms, which secures other rights. As a member of the NRA, I believe every citizen should have the right to own a gun if they so desire.
Right to Life
I believe in the inalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Paramount is life. From conception to death, all human life must be considered sacred and must be protected.
Illegal Immigration
My great-grandfather immigrated LEGALLY to the United States in the early 1900′s through Ellis Island in New York City. He waited in line, filled out the proper paperwork, and followed the rules. By allowing illegal aliens the benefits of living in our country we are not only creating a drain on our schools, hospitals, and local job market but we are undermining our process for legal immigration. I support Arizona in their stand against illegal immigrants and if I am elected to represent the 7th District I will fight to make sure that Anne Arundel County is not on the list of sanctuary counties.
